I think it's inevitable that HA will continue to move towards WiFi or other forms of RF control, getting away from the things that bedevil PLC. Logitech is introducing a new remote+hub+smartphone (or tablet) app that does WiFi and Bluetooth. It already supports the Philips Hue WiFi-LED lights.

I've been planning to buy a new tablet and have been researching those with remote control apps (none of which are very customizable). The Logitech Harmony smartphone/tablet app simplifies that search.

iRule is very customisable. I use it to control my home theatres, switching everything on, setting the right inputs, dimming the lights, turning on subwoofers etc.
