Universal Module and New Chamberlian Garage Door Open
« on: January 02, 2014, 11:28:25 PM »

I'm trying to setup a garage door alert system using a couple window sensors and the x10 Universal Module to relay a close door message back to the opener.

I setup everything in my office and had the sensor tripping and the universal module responding to my requests, but when I installed the universal module it wouldn't work.

I tried to install the module inline with my existing garage door button but when I do that it basically shut off the signal to the opener having both things connected.  I even tried replacing the door button with the universal module but it doesn't seem to be accepting the relay command.

Has anyone ran into this type of issues with garage door openers?

Thanks
Troy

Some of the latest openers {Chamberlain is one of them}. With intelligent type controls. With things like clocks and light control buttons. The Universal Module shorts out the data to the display. Many times resulting in things like the clock resets or the display goes blank.

Does the opener have an intelligent type display?

Try the Universal Module in the Momentary Output Mode.

The opener does have an intelligent display. Also, that was the mode I had the universal module in when I was trying it.

Get a spare remote, pair it to the opener, crack it open, solder leads to the push button contacts, hook leads up to the UM506, go to the "shack" and get a 9 volt battery eliminator, plug the whole shebang in to the wall, set it on a shelf, forget about it for the next 10 years.

**Warning: battery eliminator may be a signal sucker. might require a filter.

Some users hacked the control panel by soldering wires from its push button to the Universal Module.

The extra remote doesn't require you to touch the main control panel and is safer to do. As you can't accidentally break the main control panel.
That has also been done by other members here.

Battery eliminator is a small 120vac to 9vdc power supply that plugs into the battery socket, thus eliminating the battery.

Are you talking the battery in the remote itself?
