I have an Active Eye Motion sensor in a
totally dark room, and have noticed that it
does not respond when totally dark.  If
there is a lttle light present it works
properly. Does it need light for it to be
able to work?  Is this a normal behavior or
is this unit defective.

If you check in the instructions it tells
you how to set the detection mode ( night or
day or both). Check under “Setting The
Dawn/Dusk And Motion Detection Mode” in the
instructions. If you don’t have the

Jim,
I have the sensor set to detect motion all
the time.  So it should work weather it is
light or dark.

The motion sensor is based on infrared only
detects changes in heat; is by any chance
is the lens damaged?  Else the detector
work if you cross the path, if you are
walking toward or away from it in a
straight line it may not detect any motion.

Carmine,
I have 2 different Active Eye's and they
both behave the same way.  They seem to
need a little bit of light to function.  I
installed a Hawkeye in the same exact spot
and it works first time every time.  Maybe
other can verify this condition.  Here is
the situation.

I have a Active Eye Installed in a
completly dark bedroom (no light at all).
The MS does not trip.  If I open the
bedroom door a little, it lets a small
amout of light in from the other room.  The
MS trips every time.

I don't understand this but this is what I
observerd.  Hopefully someone else can
verify this.

I have AwkEye MS13a and they all work fine
in the dark.
They are probably defective, regardless of
the setting (dusk/down) it has to work in
the dark or it’s absolutely useless.

Tcassio: The ActiveEye should work in the
dark, for sure. I have a few here, and will
give it a try, once I figure out how to make
truly dark space in our office.
