Humorous Problem
« on: September 22, 2005, 10:04:44 AM »

Part 3 of 3

I figure it got stuck in the morning when
getting dressed and it had been
transmitting E1-OFF for 12 hours.  I am
surprised the batteries were still
working.  I was also surprised that the
timers for the downstairs lights had worked
but the macro to turn the bedroom closet
light off automatically after 5 minutes had
not worked.

I took advantage of the opportunity to make
some updates to my timers and macros that I
have been wanting for a while.

Part 2 of 3

I then went downstairs and grabbed my old
(pre diagnostic) CM15A and plugged it in.
Everything was fine.  I figured that my
diagnostic CM15A must have malfunctioned so
I started to program my old CM15A and found
that after starting to program, the
application stopped with the communication
icon flickering like crazy.  After several
unsuccessful attempts I checked my
KeypadLinc and discovered that the X10
activity had started.

I then figured that it must be transceiving
a continuous stream of RF commands and
started to look for a transmitter that
might be stuck.  I then discovered that I
had a PalmPad stuck in the drawer in my
bedside table.  I opened the drawer and
everything started working again.

Part 1 of 3

Last night I had a humorous problem.  After
I put my daughter to bed I went downstairs
to watch some TV and went to run my “Movie
Time” macro to dim the lights.  It didn’t
work.  I tried it again and it still didn’t
work.  After several unsuccessful attempts
I looked at my “KeypadLinc” and saw that
the green LED was flickering like crazy
meaning that there was a tone of X10
activity.

The first thing I did was to unplug my
CM15A and the activity stopped.  I plugged
it in again and the activity started
again.  I removed the battery and noticing
that it was warm (and smelled “hot”) I let
it cool down for a bit.  When I plugged it
back in the activity started again.

I had the keychain remote from the olde
Active Home Kit melt and bubble the case.
Seems either the RF transistor in the
transmitter shorted or the controller chip
kept it on. Anyway the thing overheated and
melted. That was after I thought the battery
where just changed recently but changed them
again!
