Plug Un AHP -- ATI Remote Crashes
« on: July 27, 2005, 07:19:03 PM »

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder video card and
the remote control is provided by X10.  When
I plu in my AHP to the USB port, the driver
for the ATI Remote crashes.  Is this a known
problem?  Any cure?

This is something we know about.

Look in Program Files\Common
Files\X10\Common\ for a file named
X10net.dll. Copy that file to \Program
Files\ATI MultiMedia\RemCtrl\. That will
replace the file that's causing the error.
You may need to stop the X10 Device Network
service before you can overwrite the files.

Unfortunately, that's something of a
temporary fix, since doing an update may
trigger the ATI installer to restore the
original. We're working on a solution that
will work without any tricks or manual
changes, but that's not quite ready yet.

I have a similar problem using X Ray Vision
with my ATI All in One Wonder video card -
with the ATI remote control. I tried
uninstalling Xray Vision and my ATI no
longer works. I needed to reinstall XRay
Vision. I noticed that X10nets.exe must be
running or my ATI remote will not work. I
also installed XRay Vision on a laptop and
my internal modem no longer woks because
X10nets.exe is using that comm port. I have
to shut down X10nets.exe in order for my
internal modem to work.

I've now been tryin to get my remote working
for the last 3 hours... I re-installed
windows a few weeks ago and recentely was
putting this back on with software downloaded
from ATI's website. Leaving the remote until
the last which was recommended and I was
still getting the error at the end with that
x10 dll... I tried replacing it and the
software still won't load for the remote in
the bar. I don't get a crash or anything that
I can see other than the prob with the
install... it just won't load.

Since updating to M$ MCE20005 roll-up 2 and
latest M$ ATI/X10 update (date June 27 and
doesn't have a reference number!) has made
ATIRW.exe unstable - crashes regularly!
Copied X10net.dll (which was several
versions later) but ATIRW.exe still
crashing! Am using ver 3 of ATI Remote
Wonder s/w and tried 2.5 and 1.4 - still
crash. Have also tried latest x10drivres -
still crash. Before update to M$ latest X10
update, no probs...
