I have the ds7000 wireless security product,
I am dissapointed with the integrated horn,
so I was investigating external sirens.
I was told I can do this with the universal
module, I have the universal module UM506,
and have attached a 150db siren to it.

The problem I have is the UM506 doesn't
switch it's relay when the alarm sounds.
I was told to use the ds7000 house code +1
and set the unit code to 5.  This still does
not work.

If I set the UM506 to the same house code and
unit code as the ds7000 the siren turns on
when I arm the security system when it chimes
it's exit delay.

Does the ds7000 send out a x10 all devices on
code? Or does it ONLY send out a all lights
on/off code?

You see I am in New Zealand these ds7000
units are 240v, the supplier here imported
them from the same factory that made the 110v
version US.  I cannot get 240v versions of
the ph508 powerhorn or even the sh10a horns
anymore.

I also had another idea to get the Smart
Interface Module

and open the ds7000 and connect the chimes to
the relay so it will activate and send out a
x10 signal to the universal module.  However
I don't think this will even work, because
the chimes are made when the unit is armed,
this will set off the universal module?..

Please help is there no way to get an
external siren to work with my ds7000 with
the universal module?

The instructions seem to be a little vague
on the actual operating procedures of the
alarm. Apparently, if there is no alarm
condition, you can turn on lights with the
keychain remote that is set to the SAME
HOUSE AND UNIT CODE as the base unit. So, if
you've got the base addressed to A-1, what-
ever lights are also addressed to A-1 will
turn on. I'm assuming, then, that during an
actual alarm event, all lights that are
addressed as A-1 will flash on and off.
But the base unit has a HOUSE and UNIT code
selector, and the large remote has buttons
for 1-4. I cannot find in the instructions
if unit codes 2 through 4 will flash also.
I'm thinking that the selectors on the base
unit are for determining what address is
going to flash during an alarm.
It seems that, if you address your Universal
Module to whatever house and unit code your
base is set for, it should work, but I'm
thinking that there will be a problem and
your external siren will be going off all
the time, eventhough the system is disarmed.
Ah, I see in your post that that is what's
happening...
I guess I'll have to take my stuff out of
the box and try to figure it out. I wouldn't
have thought that the base unit would turn-
on the siren when you disarm the system.
It would be nice if X-10 would have provided
some dry contacts on the base unit that can
be used for such an occassion.
I've got to do thinking on another external
siren problem and will be thinking on yours.
If you figure it out, let us all know!

Let me ask, does your 240v have two 120v
wires and 2 neg. wires ( like the 240v here
in the US )?
I am thinking, why dont you just wire
yourself a 120v outlet off of a 240v outlet,
to use exclusive for an additional X10 power
horn?

That's a good thought! If there is no
neutral, he could run a wire to ground and
get 120. I wouldn't recommend using the
system ground for this purpose, though.
