wire and wireless control panel?
« on: November 29, 2004, 01:02:25 PM »

I have an alarm system now. I'd like to get
rid of the control panel and put in an x10
system. I had a company that said they could
use my wored sensors and add new X10
features to the system. What kind of control
panel would I use to do this and add home
automation?
Thanks
Bob

Bob, I found that I could remove the pickup
unit on the DS10A door/window sensor by
removing the screws. I would then connect
these wires to my existing hard wired door
and window switches from old alarm system.
These are normanally closed until a door or
window opens. When a door or window is open
the DS10A send a signal to the DS7000 seting
off alarm.

"I have an alarm system now. I'd like to

x10 system."

You're braver than I am. I wouldn't think
of removing my existing system and
replacing with an X10 one. What I have is
reliable, dependable, and affordable.

Most decent alarms do have a alarm out that
will trigger a power flash module, however.
I had my installers run a wire for me to
connect to a power flash module to flash my
lights when the alarm is triggered.

FYI.. Many of the well known commercial
alarm companies use proprietary control
panels requiring you to use the their
choice of monitoring service. They can
quickly recover their giveaway installation
price with their overpriced monitoring
fees. Ask and get in writing that the
system will allow you to chose your own
monitoring service!

I do not recommend using any alarm system
without a monitoring service. Many cities
have fines for false alarms.

That's weird!

The forum auto edited out the words "power
flash". In case it does it again what I've
typed between quotes is "-power-flash-"
(remove -)

I suspect the problem maybe tied to
the "Internal Server Errors" that are
occurring when posting. After an error, I
do a back page. After a refresh, my post is
there without the words "power flash". I
suspect that the forum "feature" that
substitutes links in the posts isn't
working.

"retest"        --> retest <--
"power flash"   --> power flash <--
