Yes, you can have a space between them. My
windows are made so that I had to have about
7/16" to 1/2" space between them. You can
test this for yourself. Hold them together
with your hand and slowly pull apart. The red
LED will light when you get to the alarm point.
As for the door, I use the motion detectors
aimed at my doors. This way, when I'm at home
at night, I can arm the system ( armed home )
and when my son comes home late at night, he
doesnt trip the alarm ( only the switches
trip the alarm when set on "arm home" ). Yes,
he does have a key fob, but that does make
the system chirp, which sometimes wakes me
up. Of course my doors aren't protected while
I'm home, but I have dead bolts on them and
anyone breaking in is going to make enough
racket to alert me. I have a door switch
attached to the side of my night stand, with
one magnet on velcro. In a panic situation, I
just pull off the magnet and the alarm sounds
right away. They do sell a panic button here,
but you have to hold it down for something
like 5 seconds, before the system activates.
I'd rather use the extra 4 seconds to arm myself.
As for your question, they need to be fairly
level with each other. I'd say within 1/4"
atleast. You can test this yourself, as I
mentioned above. Then determine how much trim
you need to remove.
