Peeping Tom is smart
« on: December 24, 2004, 04:32:25 PM »

First off I had my x10 cam stolen (new in
box/garage).  A couple of weeks later I
came home and it looked as if my TV and
Computer had been slightly moved. Then
later I over heard a neighbor telling
another man about something that happened
inside my home. How does he know that
info?  Curtains were closed.  I moved!!
I,m  approx 1/2 mile away now; but when I
turn  on my TV or work on my computer I
hear very  low background voices.  I cant
catch the  whole conversation but pieces
of  it.  Somebody is seeing what Im doing
in my  new  house.  How is this posible?
No Im  not on  drugs or crazy.  This is
serious,  Im a  single woman and this is
real.  How  can I  detect and catch these
peeping toms?  Is it  posible he put a
camera in my TV,  cable  cord or etc.

Wireless X10 cams cam be intercepted with
peopl who has X10 video receivers within
100 feet.  If you are installing X10 cams
within your house, I recommend you use the
Wired X10.

I have rigged together a portable 2.4 Ghz
video scanner system with an x-10 reciever,
portable handheld TV, and a battery pack. I
originally used it to diagnose signal
problems with my own x-10 stuff, but didnt
take long to realize that i can watch my
neighbors TV (they have some kind of video
repeater). If anyone has something similar to
what i have, they can peer into your home if
you have the wireless cameras. The only thing
u can do is randomly change the channel your
camera transmits on. If someone knows u have
the camera though, all they have to to is
change the channel to their reciever until
they pick you up. The only real soloution is
to get wire based cameras, not wireless.

It turns out that Mobile Video Scanner thing
is growing in the "hacker underground". Do a
search for WarSpying or Warviewing and u will
see what i mean.

I heard about something where some hotels
would hide wireless cameras in peoples rooms
so they can video their intamate moments...
I am going on vacation soon, and im gonna be
taking my wireless video scanner setup along
with me. I have allready heard reports from
my friends in other states that they have
picked up hidden cams in hotel rooms from
outside the hotel itself...

Sometimes its good to know what kind of
things the bad guys do, that way you can
fight fire with fire!

To AL.

Im sorry if i wasnt clear on this. I didnt
purchace a 2.4 Ghz scanner, what i did was
turn my X-10 2.4 GHz reciever into a wireless
video "scanner". I made a circuit that will
scan through the available 4 channels on my
x-10 reciever automatically for me, instead
of having to do it manually. Sorry for the
confusion.

If you are looking for a radio scanner that
can go ito the 2.5Ghz range, check your local
radio shack, Uniden, or ICOM retailer. They
sell radio scanners that can go into that
range, but be prepared to spend a few hundred
bucks for it. If you just want to make a
Video "Scanner", do a web-search on
WarSpying, WarViewing, or contact me...  ;}
