HELP - Garage Door Opens
« on: May 14, 2005, 03:19:24 PM »

My garage door opened and I'm not sure why.

The garage door opener comes with 2 remote
devices which can programmed with a security
code that matches the security code on the
motor that opens the garage door. I changed
the codes and everything worked fine for
about a week, then it happened again, the
garage door opened.

This problem is intermittent but has started
to occur ever since I installed the
DS7000/PS561. I have 5 door sensors and 6
motion detectors.

Does anybody know what could be the problem.
How can I be sure it is not the DS7000.

(I'm being paranoid but maybe someone has an
electrinic device that can crack the code to
the garage door opener)

Any indication on the opener or its remote.
The frequency it uses to communicate? If you
can find an FCC number on the remote [should
have one as it is a transmitter], we can
look it up.

The remote says the frequency is 312 MHz and
made by Linear Corporation

OK X10 is 310 Mhz. I don't think the X10
stuff can be that far off, but the
components in their RF devices are not too
stable.

If it is the X10 that opened the garage
door, then I think it must be the motion
detector that sent the signal when I walked
accross it. I don't think the DS7000 sends
any signals, it is just a receiver. DO you
know if the DS7000 sends signals? I have the
DS7000 inside the house but it is close to
the garage door. But one of my motion
detectors is also close to the garage door.

I'm thinking to move the motion detector out
of range from the garage opener. But maybe I
have to move both. Any suggestions?

The question then becomes how can the X10
Motion Sensor know the security code code
set in the garage door remote?

(i.e. I set the security code in the garage
door remote by toggling a set dip swithces
so that the remote matches what I set in the
garage door opener)

Even if the frequencies were the same, in
order for the X10 motion sensor to open the
garage, it would have to transmit a signal
using the same security code I set in the
garage door remotes.

Right the DS7000 only receives RF signals
from sensors and can send line X10 signals
whan triggered to flash lights and sirens.
From what I have read the sensors generate a
random code when initilized and I also think
it would be very rare to find the same codes.
Maybe it is a roaming code breaker.
