I think this post simlar to others re: Radio
Shack version of he console, but here I go :

I have the Protector Plus PS561 console and
sensor array setup. I would like to also
incorporate a Radio Shack 49478 Security
Siren/Strobe device into this system. The
49478 use low voltage 12v 2 wire connection.

Looking at the Powerflash burglar alarm
interface PF284, it connects 2 wires to I
think 12 volt power flow, but the
documentation does not seem to indicate that
I can use the PF284 in the manner I
describe. Anybody know if it will work ?  I
dont want to go just messing around with it
in case I fry it, because it doesnt belong
to me !

Or is the UM506 Universal Module what I
would need? ....   or just entirely not do-
able unless some custom electronic work
involved ?

Hi Ian...Brian H can answer this best:
nothing from will trip an external alarm--
without modification (such as we are
investigating with the
_PH508_Powerhorn_Siren_ or Robert D's
Console modification.  Brian can best
explain why nothing works but it has to do
with the type of codes sent out when an
alarm is tripped.  Sorry....we all suffer!

PF248 Powerflash module is a module that can
send X10 signals over the powerline when
triggered by a switch or low voltage.
Somtimes tripped by a switch inside a
security console. The UM506 Universal Module
is used to control a low voltage device when
it receives an X10 ON or OFF signal on the
address it is set to. The Security Console
could trigger it if it is set to the address
the lights flash on, but it will also turn
on with the Lighte ON command when you arm
away [if memory serves me]. The security
consoles send an All Lights ON and All Units
Off when triggered. The Powerhorns need
three cycles of ON OFF codes to trigger them
and the RS 49-1000 sends different codes. A
set of ON OFF codes on two addresses the set
one and Address+1. The second address is
enough to stop the Powerhorns from sounding.

Brian...regarding the capacitor in the
_PH508_Powerhorn_Siren_ (if you use
underlines before the _X10 device name the
forum software won't delete it):  Another
mod on the Pigs Electronics website states
that the capacitor on circuit board pin C13
controls the amount of ON/OFFs needed to
activate the _PH508_PowerHorn_Siren_.  The
C13 capacitor is presently rated at 22uF
requiring approx. 4 ON/OFFs to activate the
alarm.  Changing the capacitor to 10uF, it
is suggested, will require only 2 ON/OFF
sequences to activate the alarm.  I bought a
1uf capacitor that I will install in a siren
to use an an alert near the front door for
hearing precisely when I arm and disarm the
system outside of the house.  With the
_PH508_ barking, I should be able to arm my
system at the 30' remote range and hear the
beep to confirm its status!

Man, there is a real request for this
external siren/strobe setup. X10 tech
support says it can't be done. Somebody with
the electronic expertise and the time could
make a little money off of this building a
module that would support the "All Lights
On" trigger....  Wish I knew how to do this
stuff.... Any takers on building some
units?  I would gladly pay, as would my
clients...  I think this missing "link"
would really round out the X10 Security
product nicely,,  I dont think the just the
powerhorn is enough.  Why hasnt X10 product
development done anything around this
request, or how do we push them for it ?..

The larger PH508 Powerhorn has the pc board
area for a relay addition and a place in the
rear cabinet for a set of output screws. Why
X10 doen't have a relay added type only they
know. The trick on the triggering the siren
is it should only trigger with a set of ON
OFFs as some controllers can send an All
Lights ON and we don't want to trigger our
siren on a single ON. Heck if you want to
trigger on a single All Lights ON. Just
modify a Lamp Module with a isolated DC SSR
in place of the Triac. There are mods to do
that now. I have added an AC one no reason
why an Isolated one can't be done.

Brian...the problem with a lamp module mod
is that the external alarm or horn would
never turn off--All lights stay on after an
alarm trigger.

Yes my refference to the single All Lights
ON problem should have also stated the
lights stay on and the siren will not go
off. Thanks for clearing up my muddy
statement.
