When I ordered the Protector Plus Dialer
system, I felt very good about what I was
getting. After receiving the package, I
realized there were several details about the
components that made a bad impression.
1. There seems to be no way to quietly disarm
the system for a bathroom trip without waking
up the house due to the fast and loud delay
chime.
2. I am a technically oriented person working
in an engineering environment for the last 11
years and still had to spend more time than
necessary on the directions.
3. The keychain remote is enormous by today’s
standards.
4. The palm remote is awkward for the hand...
this is why TV remotes are not so wide.
5. But the most disturbing problem with the
system is that there is no sensitivity
control on the motion detectors! How can this
be? These are designed and advertised as
outdoor detectors but if a raccoon sets it
off as it did for me last night, what good is
it? This is an oversight that beats all
others. The X10 guy on the phone this morning
didn't show much interest in my problem as he
told me that none of the detectors have this
(very basic and expected) feature.
I am a Wal Mart kind of person and I think
the concept of inexpensive security products
is great. But the concerns above, at least
the first four, would not cost more to
produce. And the last concern for sensitivity
control might cost a bit more, but it should
be offered on a slightly more expensive model.
On a positive note, the dialer worked great.
The peace of mind will be nice.
