Disabling Siren on the DS7000 Security Console
« on: December 15, 2005, 05:07:07 PM »

I would like to disable the siren on the
DS7000 Security Console so that it only
dials out when the alarm is triggered (like
a silent alarm).  I know that doing it will
also disable the feedback chime.  Does
anyone know how to open the Security
Console?  There isn't any screws on the
bottom so the sides probably need to be
pressed in, but where?  Has anyone opened
one of these?

I dont know why you would want to do this
but get some duck tape and put it over the
siren.

There are four screws that need to be
removed.  One is located in the battery
compartment tray.  You can see it after
removing the latch with the unit unside
down.  The other three are under the rubber
pads on the bottom of the unit.  The down
side of disconnecting the siren is the lack
of feed-back chirps when programming,
arming and disarming.  Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot dken! Before posting my
message I pulled the foot off near the
battery door so I assumed the screws
weren't under the feet. That is the only
foot that doesn't have a screw under it.  I
now have disconneted one of the horns and
inserted a 100K resistor in series with the
connection to the other one. That reduced
the siren volume enough and still allowed
the feedback chime, albeit at a
significantly lower level.  Thanks for your
help. It helped greatly.

I don't need all of the capabilities of the
whole DS7000 system.  I am only using the
motion sensor (outside the back door) along
with the Security Console as a silent
alarm, to call my cell phone if there is
someone at the back door (which is where no
one should be).  I'm using the DS7000 in
conjunction with several Pansonic network
cameras inside and around the outside.  I
use the Panasonic cameras because they are
pan-tilt and zoom cameras that have their
own built-in web servers, so I don't have
to have a computer running, only a
router/cable modem. (X10 cameras require a
PC to be running as a server.)  As soon as
I get the call, I can look at any of the
cameras on my cell phone, and because the
cameras have two way audio, I can actually
talk with whoever is at the back door.
They think they are talking to someone
inside the building. I don't need a siren,
especially if it hangs up in the ON
position which has been my experience with
some of the X10 home automation products.
I would not be very popular in the
neighborhood with a siren that hangs up in
the ON position, especially when I'm gone
for weeks at a time.

Hi Henry,
You can get two of the models at Best Buy
(at least at the the one in PHX), but the
whole product line can be viewed at:
http://www.panasonic.com/consumer_electronic
s/gate/cameras.asp
Hope that helps; my hybrid system is
working great.
