I don't need all of the capabilities of the
whole DS7000 system. I am only using the
motion sensor (outside the back door) along
with the Security Console as a silent
alarm, to call my cell phone if there is
someone at the back door (which is where no
one should be). I'm using the DS7000 in
conjunction with several Pansonic network
cameras inside and around the outside. I
use the Panasonic cameras because they are
pan-tilt and zoom cameras that have their
own built-in web servers, so I don't have
to have a computer running, only a
router/cable modem. (X10 cameras require a
PC to be running as a server.) As soon as
I get the call, I can look at any of the
cameras on my cell phone, and because the
cameras have two way audio, I can actually
talk with whoever is at the back door.
They think they are talking to someone
inside the building. I don't need a siren,
especially if it hangs up in the ON
position which has been my experience with
some of the X10 home automation products.
I would not be very popular in the
neighborhood with a siren that hangs up in
the ON position, especially when I'm gone
for weeks at a time.
