Remote sometimes works - one switch set only
« on: November 09, 2005, 11:45:43 AM »

I have installed X10 modules and switches all
over the house.  I've recently encountered a
strange one.  There is one x10 three-way
switch pair that will respond the the remote
ONLY if this was the last device the remote
controlled, either on or off, or if it was
activated manually via either wall switch.

I have checked the possibility that it is the
only device on the other side of the
electrical panel, and that is not the case.
The devices are about evenly split.  It also
does not matter if I move the transceiver to
an outlet on the other side.

Also, I noticed that the transceiver does not
work if some situations - where I am in one
part of the house and the transceiver is in
another.  Is there a range issue?  Low
battery issue? (does not appear so; I've just
changed them)  Can I put several transceivers
around the house set to the same house code,
or will that cause interference?

John:  Hmm.  That is a strange problem.
The X10 brand wall switches are not as
reliable as other modules since they don't
have a neutral wire connection so the
problem may be related to that.  Are you
switching incadecent light bulbs?  If not,
that could be your problem.

For your other problem, which transceiver
are you using?  It likely is a range
problem though.  It isn't reccomended to
have multiple transceivers set to the same
house code, but you might be able to get
away with it if 1) they are all of the same
make/model and 2) The transceivers are all
on differennt circuits and far from the
breaker panel.

This message had gone unanswered for a while,
and was in danger of getting lost in the
history, so I split it up and asked again.
ReL  the remote not working with the 3-way
(WS4777) - it seems to have fixed itself.

The other day, I got it to work if I pressed
on the appropriate "on" button and held it
for 5 - 6 seconds.  Just now, I tried it, and
it works fine.  Previously, it seemed that it
only worked instantly when that particular
module (the WS4777) was the LAST one
activated, either on or off, either by remote
or by the wall switch.  It didn't matter
which phase I had the transceiver plugged to.
Now it seems to work fine.  Go figure.
