Hey Everyone-

So I have a fully automated home, and I used
the X10 modules / software package.  I made a
video about my house:

its really cool....and I only showed a
fraction of some of the cool things I have
done without breaking the bank big time...I
also have security cameras which broadcast on
internal tv channels and more.  Check out the
video!

Cool video.  Looks like a TON of wires
laying around though, probably a PITA to
clean around lol.  Looks like you went all
out with your system.  I'd like to do some
similar things when I build a new home in
the forseeable future, (5 or so years)and I
want to have it all integrated into the
home instead of adding it in later.  Gonna
cost a bit, but, sure is fun isnt it?

actually most of the wires are hidden for the
most part, and when its hit the scale of my
house in some places theres no way avoid
them.  I can't even fit my hands around the
bundle of wires coming from the basement up
into the main level of the home.  I think I
put around a mile of cat5 cable into my 1250
sq foot home...which is a TON...

What or who do you suggest for this type of
application:  Where I have no "light
switches" only a control panel that you
touch to turn on lights, and can dim them
from the panel, and control a ceiling fan,
also has a remote for each room, and is
also controlled by a main computer that I
can plug into in any room, like, have a CPU
in a closet or in a cupboard that controls
everything, yet, I can plug into like a LAN
phone jack type connection in any room with
a laptop and control things or make
adjustments, and also be able to control my
lights and such over the internet?

This is the type of system I want to
incorporate into my new home when I get
ready to build it.  I want it all built
into the home though, and have it easily
expandable, yet, with all those functions,
I HIGHLY doubt I'd ever need to add
anything else LOL.

I'd go with this x10 stuff, its really
reasonably priced, and you can download
applications online that can control x10
modules through a web based interface, I'd
suggest then getting wireless internet in
your home, and then with a laptop you can
wirelessly connect to the computer and make
adjustments to your system....(thats actually
on my list of things to do to my home)

I like the idea of beeing able to control
everything from everywhere, but I would
caution you on removing the wall switchs
permanently because as any electronic
system, the X10 system can and probably
will fail at some point, for some reason.
I'm sure You'll be able to fix the problem
in a short amount of time, but what do you
do in a dark house in the mean time if you
can't turn on the lights manually??

I'm currently working on such a problem
that I have with 3 of my light switchs that
will no longer respond to any command that
comes thrue X10.  The switchs are still
working fine, so it's not that big of a
problem, I just lost the nice things I had
programmed into them for now, but I can
still see where I put my feet when I walk
around.

as I enter or exit an area or room.

A 12 volt relqay system has been ar5ound for
n50-60 years. Its mainly used in larger
buildings to lower cost, simplify and etc.
It was tried in the home market but didn't
catch. A central control panal was usually
in the master br and switches are momentary
contact type, to switch the relaqy.
