IR Capable Devices
« on: February 15, 2006, 02:26:06 PM »

I have a Logitech Harmony 880 remote and I
want a wall receptacle (not a plug in
module)and light switch that I can use with
it.  Does anyone know of any?  Thanks!

Your best solution would be to look into
getting an older device called an IR543. It
looks like a mini remote but also accepts
IR signals and then transmits an RF command
back over your power line. RadioShack used
to sell them but now your best bet is e-bay
or X-10 if they still sell them.
The other thing that you will need is a X-
10 remote that sends out an IR signal to
the IR543. X-10 has a number of them. You
need this remote to train your 880 remote.
This way you can use any of the standard
wall receptacles.

Rich; Can you train the Harmony Locally? I
thought it used a netbased training from
Logitech's data base. I believe the IR543 is
still being sold by X10 and the modified one
for all house codes is avilable from a third
party source.

Brian: I don't have a Harmony, I have an
Acoustic Research ARR1540 which I can train
from any remote. This allows me to control
up to 10 X-10 devices.
You might want to check out the forum site :
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-
vb/forumdisplay.php?f=93 if you haven't
found it yet. They have a lot of good info
on your 880 and you can search for the
answer you need. That forum has a lot of
good information on various remotes.
