What's the best way to X10 control my sprinklers
« on: January 12, 2005, 03:08:44 PM »

Is there a simple solution to controlling
my low voltage 11 zone automatic sprinkler
system? Currently, I have to go down to my
basement where the Toro digital box sits
and make any adjustments. I know there's a
$18 X10 low voltage relay box available,
but would I have to buy 11 of these
devices?? Has anyone written a sprinkler
program?

Thanks in advance for any info anyone ca
offer!

I've used a 8 zone iraamaster for years.
It's X10 smart, and will do things like send
a x10 seq as to the state of the rain sensor
if it changes, and every 24 hours there
after.  Has a feature that if a zone is on
for 90 minutes it turns off, or if a zone is
on and another zone gets an on, the first
zone goes off..

I got it from homecontrol.com but I think
smarthome.com has a similar thing.

IIRC, it was <$100 US

Yes you would have to buy 11 of the low
voltage boxes if you went that route.
SmartHome has 2 different boxes that you
can use. Item # 2320 - 16 relay latched
controller ($199.99), requires Item# 1135 -
2-way interface module ($24.99).
Item# 3124c - Rain8 Sprinkler controler w
Powerlinc interface. ($116.99) Note: this
will only control 8 zones.

The 2320 is only a latching controller (1-
way out unit) so if you want any sensors
you have to add additional hardware to
control that end of things.

Note: Due to the way AHP transmits commands
you have to place delays in any macros that
you create - If you have 2 zones programmed
to come on at the same time, only the
second zone will actually activate (place a
delay between the commands and things work
OK, even if the delay is only 0 seconds). I
am using 8 relay version of the 2320 and
that is the only problem I have
encountered - otherwise things are great.

Check out http://www.smarthome.com  - they
also have other items that may be of
interest to you. GOOD LUCK
