Low Battery Light Stays On DS7000 Base
« on: October 17, 2005, 05:31:38 PM »

After a recent power failure, when the power came
back on, the low battery light came on. Checked the
9 volt carbon-zinc battery, still good. Replaced it
anyway with fresh alkaline Duracell. Followed
installation instructions; unplugged power cord,
removed the battery, waited a couple of minutes, re-
attached 9 volt battery, reconnect power cord. As
soon as I plugged it in, the low battery light came on
and stayed on.

This means I have no back up on future power
failures. Everything gets erased. Any thoughts?

Also, after re-recording outgoing message, the
recording was so garbled that I couldn't understand
my own recording.

The base unit still arms/disarms and still detects
intrusions via motion detectors and window-door
detector.

Thanks for the feedback.

When the power came back on. Do you know if
there where any surges? Almost sounds like
the unit is damaged.

I have the same problem.
I've received my new DS7000 yesterday. I've inserted the new battery found in the box, but the low battery light is on. I've tried to change the battery with another one (new) without solve the problem. The light is always on.

What to do?

Yep sounds to me they are both defective. I had to send back 4 DS7000 before I got one that worked then that one dies just before the warranty expired so I was able to send it back under warranty and got a new unit this one has been going strong for going on a year and a half now so I guess I finally got a good one. I've heard of people getting defective units quite a bit of late these unit is made in China as you probably know and China produces the poorest electronics in the world there just little or no quality control. x10 should ensure the quality of these units along with the motion detectors and window door sensors, people entrust their homes and valuables with these devices. I will say that the unit I now helped foiled an attempted break in and performed flawlessly along with three large powerhorns. Those large powerhorns are really great got three for the price of one had to send one of the three back you guessed it defective, but they can really help. I saw a burglar give an interview on a local news channel and when asked what were good deterrents he said he broke in one house and the sirens were so loud that he just couldn't stand it and had to leave immediately. The thief that broke in my house also got nothing the flashing lights (all my lights are x10 controlled) powerhorns all this had to be very disorientating. When this stuff works it's great but quality is an ongoing issue.

I can live without the low battery light  ;D
The DS7000 works fine and it does not lose the configuration even if I unplug the power cord (I didn't try to wait two hours before reconnecting the power cord yet).

I've bought the DS7000 system on ebay from Italy. It is not so easy to send it back on warranty in the USA.

Anyway, if someone can help us to fix this little problem I'll be happy  :)
