protector plus....never worked
« on: March 31, 2006, 09:28:09 PM »

I purchased 2 of the protector plus security systems.  The first was installed at my fathers house.  After 24 hours of use, the senors stated reporting in failures and low battery tilts.  Tried several batters, no luck.  Withen 48 hours window and door sensors would report back as failed or battery low within hours, and the only way to clear was to reset the whole system, and then have to re initialize every sensor, lots of work.  No support from X-10, on hold for 30-40 minutes each time, no resolution.  They said it was a bad base unit.  So we set up the one in my house, guess what, the same thing happened. The base unit shows slow flashing lights in zones indicating that the window and door sensors could not communticate with the base unit. I was told y bsupport it was my batteries, I tested them on a multi-meter, all OK. Then they said range of signal, cant be, some of the sensors where less than 10 ft away.  I even put an extra senor next to the base unit, but within 2 hours, it wouldn't work.  Again the only way to clear would be to pull the battery out of the base unit and have to walk around your house and redo all your sensors.  If its not relable how can it be secure.

The forum is filled with people that have this problem as I did some searching, but no one seems to know the answer.  Customer support was horrible, they refused to let me speak to a level 2 tech, said that was email only?  They refused to let me talk to a supervisor, he will have to call you back, not available.  Well its been a week, no phone call.  We sent everything back, including all of the automation stuff we also purchased. It was a $1500.00 order, and it seemed like they didn't care.

My advice stay away from protector plus....

Seems Like I went thru the same thing and still dont have my system working proper. I have replaced the f faulty security console and had to pay out of my pocket to send it back. And tthe worse thing is there is no real support for problems that lead to days and they said I couldnt get my money back. I can get it back thru my lawyer and will if I dont start getting some answers soon. Seems like I only recieved a few tip from two guys in the whole system, but they have extra support to sell you more and even things that wont run together like wireless cameras and wired.. This could have benn settled very easy if someone  would of gave me a phone number for me to call on my dime to work out these problems. Still not working proper and getting the same email answers ..low batteries which isnt true.. Need support and cant find it with x10 unless I buy more from sales...

Scott and Nick,

I came across your posts in the forum today and spoke with some people about helping you with Protector Plus. The DS7000 is a very reliable product once it's up and running, but it sounds like you've both had a difficult experience so far. I spoke with our product specialist, Tony McCarl, this morning and he would like to help you personally. He's very knowledgeable about all of our products. Please contact him at your earliest convenience his email address is tmccarl@x10.com. Explain the problem you're having and leave your contact information. He's happy to walk through setting up Protector Plus with you over the phone - troubleshooting any difficulties you have along the way.

We look forward to hearing from you soon,

...please add me to the mix for getting an answer to this question---username = chuck h.

While I've had a DX7000 for about 2 years, I woke up this a.m. having all of its sensor lights flashing.

Made no recent changes (haven't needed to do so for months), but don't know what significant event may have happened through the night.

I will re-program the DX7000 today and report back to you on my results, but really want to get to "root causes" for this if at all possible.

Thanks.
