RSS18/CM15A Signal Block Discovery
« on: August 04, 2006, 05:27:50 PM »

I have about 40 modules and wall switches controlled by my CM15A which in turn gets RF signals from several palm pads and IR detectors.  I also have had an RSS18 in use one floor away from the CM15A for over a year with no problems.  I just installed a second RSS18 about 6 feet from the CM15A in the same room and was very surprised its operation was eratic.  In researching the problem I discovered that if I stood between the RSS18 and the CM15A so that the signal had to pass through my body it wouldn't work about 2/3 of the time.  Standing to the side of the RSS18 so I'm not in the way of the signal gives almost perfect results.  Biomass turns out be be a better RF screen than I'd have suspected.

I have seen a construction project for a passive antenna for the switches. basically it is a wire you put near the top of the switch and it helps the RF be sent to the receivers in question. CM15As are known to have issues with some RF reception. Try the CM15A antenna Horizontal.
