The Vanguard camera with a video mixer
« on: December 16, 2006, 05:14:30 PM »

Recently a member offered a Vanguard camera to our church for recording services etc.  What we have found is that when we run the signal through Videonics MX-1 video mixer with our other cameras the Vanguard will turn on and off at various times.  We like the quality of image received, but can not live with the flashing on and off.  We also like the zoom, pan and tilt feature of the camera.

What we want to do is to hook up to 4 vanguard cameras to this mixer and mix a final tape of the service.  Can this be done?  If so, how?  We need to keep all images on the monitor so we can edit as necessary, setting up and switching to each camera in a somewhat random fashion.

What other equipment do we need to get this working?

Thank you

kleem:

As far as the turning on and off problem with the Vanguard camera, are you using it as wired or wireless?  ie: are you using a video receiver with the camera, check for RF interference.

Check to see if the video drops out at a specific pan/tilt position. I had this happen on a Vanguard and had to replace it. The wires that feed the video to the output of the camera have been know to become intermittent due to the movement.

Concerning mixing multiple cameras, this can get very technical, but if you need to "mix" multiple live video sources to a recorder, then there is a lot more involved than just adding multiple cameras to the video mixer.  Typically, you will need to add "TBC" [timebase correction] functionality to the mixer. This allows synchronizing of the video sources (cameras) thru the mixer. This is probably NOT the best forum for recommendations concerning this, so I suggest you do some google searches for a more appropriate forum.
