extending camera length problems?

I have set up my camera (i have an SC18A), and I extended the cable by simply hooking up an RCA cable to the video output from the camera and using a male-male adaptor to connect the two. Now the problem is that the picture is only coming out in black and white. When I hook the camera up directly (without the extra cable) to a different tv the picture is fine. I thought it was the tv, but i plugged a different camera (different brand camera) into that tv and the picture is fine. Any suggestions?

You don't state how much farther you have extended the wires!
I Have extended a wired x10 camera the same way!
I extended the length by about 50 feet with out any color loss!
Others have extended the length by over 100 feet with no noticeable effects!
Did you make up the wire extention your self or use a cheap assembled set?
Check the RCA connections possibly a bad solder joint!
How heavy gauge wire did you use?
A small gauge wire will not work as well as a heavier gauge one for long distances!

Loss of color (the burst marker) is clearly a sign of low signal. Things that might help:
1. base band video amp at or near the camera end.
2. high quality coax cable (made for video, no splices, or make your own with RG68) and connectors.
3. convert to CAT 5 twisted pair.
