Hello,

I bought a automation kit from Radio shack which came with a Transceiver and a wireless switch. I am not sure if the Transceiver can receive and translate the IR signal from my remote, I know it works fine with RF remote as I can control the lights with my Lola remots. I am planning to buy a remote with X10 library (maybe logitech Harmony) so that I can use one remote to watch TV and well as control the lights. The quesiton is, will the existing transceiver work with the IR remote or I have to buy http://www.x10.com/promotions/ir543_2f1_0829.html ?

Any help will be appreciated!

thanks !

The transceiver ONLY works w/ RF.

So yes, you need the IR543 to work with an IR remote (and (I think) for ALL RF remotes that are not made by X10).

The IR543 will allow you to turn lights on and off using the X10 IR codes built into many remotes (and thats a good price for it too).

Watch out, sounds like you may have caught the automation bug, so you might want to get that purchase up to $49.99 for the FREE shipping.

If you get an X10 RF Remote. Some can be reset to do X10 by IR if you need it. That turns off the RF and on the IR.

You mean there is a feature in X10 remotea which lets you change the remote from RF to ir ? :o

I do have a X10 Lola remote, is this functionality present in Lola remotes ?

glt

Well, I'm not quite sure how that will help you - but some X-10 remotes have two set up codes for X10.

Seems I remember codes 998 and 999. One does X10 by RF and the other by IR.

But if RF is working on the Lola remote - why would you want to change it to IR?

Nah, I was just curious. I do not plan to switch to IR. My RF transceiver is in my garage and my remote works from everywhere in my house. I do need need IR for sure.

But if I get IR543  as suggested by you, I have to keep  it in sight with the IR remote..right ?

glt

Yep, thats the way (infrared) light works.

I prefer RF for X10 - but the IR543 will let you use that nice Harmony to turn down the lights,

But, if you have a SIMPLE A/V system you DO know that the Lola remote will do LIMITED learning, right?

(please see the instuctions.)

I amnot aware that Lola remotes have that learning feature. Mine is a old one which I got around 2-3 years back. I will look at the manual though....If it works, you are the man !
