Here is the system requirements:

At least 4 cameras with the following:
   Color
   Nightvision (to some extent)
   Wireless

Monitoring
Ability to monitor cameras from all televisions in the house without additional wiring
Ability to monitor cameras from locally networked computers
Ability to monitor cameras from internet

Door locks
Two standard doors and one gate need to be unlocked remotely, it would be great if the cameras had a motion sensor on them that would alert via computer/TV that there was movement at a door or gate and be able to speak with that person via intercom then have the ability to unlock unlock the gate/door remotely right there.  Doors should be able to be unlocked via key, fingerprint, rfid, or proximity card.

Recording
Cameras should record passively for 24-72 hours and actively with any motion for at least 1 minute on hard disk.

You should be able to view all four camera feeds at one time on one monitor as well as be able to view each feed separately.

Is this possible with x10 components or should I look at another vendor/system?

vhoang

X10 will have the camers you are looking for.
With the monitoring features you are looking for.

I would recommend going with wired runs for stability anyhow.

and camera via motion sensor.

To lock and unlock door, you will need a doorstrike or something like this http://www.sensorsandmore.com/?mod=product&cat_id=14&product_id=28 with a rigged remote connected to a contact closure device like X10's
universal module.

DVR will need to be purchased elsewhere unless you want to use your computer, then there's a usb interface
that X10 has that can do that.

or check out http://www.qps-inc.com for fingerprint locks and camera + DVR systems.   no computer interface for
scripting/macro/or other logic to trigger opening or unlocking of stuff.

I don't know of a complete system package anywhere that does exactly what you want...   Just bits and pieces from
different sources (including X10) and a little manual intervention to make it all happen.
