Units turning on and off
« on: June 11, 2007, 10:11:47 AM »

I have had an X10 for over 9 years.  All of a sudden I cannot seem to get the units to turn on and off at the programed times.  I have tried new batteries, reload the controller etc.  It seemed to start with the new software download.

I am on Active Home Pro 3.204

"It seemed to start with the new software download."

What new software?  One of the plug-ins or something else?

It could also be a corrupted .ahx file.  Do you always back your .ahx files every time you make a change?  It will save your butt.

jefferyds,

You're an experienced X10 user so I'll dispense with the obvious CM15a reset procedure and other...

Per Dan Lawrence's post, please let us know what software was updated (AHP, and addon or other).  I recently built a new PC and downloaded the latest copy of AHP (3.204 with smartmacros).  I'm a believer in not fixing what isn't broken, so the version on my old PC was probably older (??).  After installing, I noticed a that some of my macros were not executing (transceived inputs off).  Changing from my "old reliable" interface (code 04L38) to a recent interface (code 06L50) resolved all of the problems(???).

I'm very interested in what version of AHP you were running prior to the upgrade as well as the date code on the back of the CM15a interface.  I'm trying to figure out what changed and caused my system (reliable for 4 years) to break.

That being said, I haven't had any problems with the timers on my "new" system.

Wat is the activity monitor telling you?
Are the events occurring randomly by them selfs or is there a lot of other "unknown" traffic on your system?
Can you activate your events reliably from the PC (is it only the timer events that are affected)?
Have your tried constructing a new "home" file with a simple timer event to see if the CM15a can execute it (short term reliability)?

Noise:
I spent a week tracking down a noise source in my house.  Everything worked great by day.  Went to He&& at night.  Turned out to be a bad sensor in my post lamp.  It was going into meltdown mode and putting all kinds of noise on the powerline.  If finally tripped the GFI and I a was able to locate it.  I've since bought a testerlinc and have been able to save much of my hair as a result.

Give us a better idea of your configuration and we'll try to help.

After the upgrade of My PC and new interface I'm finding that many of the things that I knew to be hard core facts "aren't".  I'm not sure if it is software or hardware changes, but many of the things that I knew to be true on my old system don't apply to my current CM15a and AHP 3.204.
