Hi after returning my Smart Repeater 3 times I got one that seems to work pretty good the other two had reception problems. The one thing I've noticed is that sometimes when dimming with my remote it seems like when I stop it continues to dim one more step or so this only happens when using the Smart Repeater, has anyone had this problem, just seems like it adds more dimming and I don't have the same pinpoint control I used to have, it does however appears to extend the range of my motion detectors. Sounds like when you release the Dim button on the remote, at the desired dim. The repeater has still one dim in the Que and sends it. I have not seen an exact answer, but maybe release one level higher then you desire may help. We have also seen this with repeaters. One or more sent after the button is released.

What version of the Smart Repeater to you have?

They both have the same P/N.  So, one way to tell them apart, is by what house code is used when you press the "test" button.  House code "M" is the original, and house code "A" is the new one.

Bright/Dim commands do not follow normal X10 protocol, and are very hard to handle in a repeater.  I won't get involved in the technical details now, but they are available on the web if you do a search.  Perhaps the best description was written by "Uncle Phil".

The typical problem is that standard dim commands are turned into "micro-dim" commands when the dimmer module cannot receive the command directly from the transmitter.  In your case the dimmer module must be receiving commands from both the transmitter and the repeater, and gets the final dim out of the repeater after the transmitter has finished.
