ActiveHome Pro And Leviton 6381
« on: July 10, 2007, 05:01:59 PM »

Hi guys well I just bought two of those Leviton 6381 (see lamps in the modules section in AHP) to try out decided to get them because of the AGC (automatic gain control) and soft ramping  the light fades up gradually and because it was listed under lamps in the software so I assumed they were compatible with the AHP software and the CM15a. Well I installed one for my front porch lights thought it would be cool to have them come on at dust and ramp softly up to 65% brightness. Well the problem is that they turn on alright but when the CM15a sent the dim comand they didn't dim properly these have a memory so that they remember the last dim level so I'm wondering if that's the problem I'm not sure how x10 transmitts the dim commands if they first send an on comand then the dim comand or what if so that could be the problem although I did change the name of the light switch  in my set up under edit so the software should know it's working with a Levition with the soft start. I also installed one in the living room were I have a timer setup for dust and in this location it won't even turn the light on although it does occasionally turn it off. These actually work perfectly with a hand held remote but not with the timers. Really confused and was hoping someone could give me a hand I really like the soft start but if they not going to work with the dim commands well I just won't be ordering any more. Thanks!

I'm also finding that things don't work the same from timers as they do from the remote. You'd think they would be sending the same commands the same way regardless of how they are triggered.

I have a couple of thoughts from my experiences.

AHP seems to like to set 2-way modules to a known configuration.  By this I mean, it sends out an extended configuration command of 3B'x and data of 03'x.  While the first two bits of the data are unused for X10's modules, I believe Leviton uses those for ramp rates;  how fast the light goes from current setting to new setting.  You might want to check into that.

For even my own LM14A's, I found that the best way to control them, is to use AHP's direct extended commands.  I mean, I control what bits are sent and when.  By doing this, I can have my LM14A's use only the extended dim command, and I get the exact light levels I want.  Possibly, you could do that too with your Levitons.
