stiffed on warranty
« on: March 15, 2006, 06:37:19 PM »

I bought a set of RCA wireless speakers from X10.  They've failed during the warranty period, so I emailed for an RMA so I could send them back for a replacement.   I was told to go talk to the manufacturer.  But when I did I was told to go talk to the vendor!  The user manual clearly says that's what I'm supposed to do.

x10's website has a "return to manufacturer" area which lists manufacturers you have to go to for warranty repair.  Trouble is, that list has ZERO entries.  Go see for yourself.

http://www.x10.com/support/faq_ordering.html#Return%20to%20a%20Manufacturer

Also, I know that unless it's a "grey market" situation, manufuacturers who contract with distributors of their products pass their warranty policies onto the vendor.  The discount the vendor gets is in part to compensate him from having to deal with warranty issues.

So basically, I think I've been deceived.    There is a standard set of laws called the UCC that vendors can't just wash their hands of, plus other consumer protection laws that don't allow vendors to offer limited 1-year warranty, or intimate that they do, and then dishonor it.   Before I start escalating to Consumer Protection Agencies and the like, I'm posting my gripe here. I hope someone sensible from X10 gets in touch with me and does the right thing.

But if my post gets deleted, that would be a big mistake.  The Internet is a beautiful thing............. ;)

Good Evening,

I would suggest calling the number.  My experience is that they go way out of the way to make customer happy, but before they can do that they must know the customer has a problem.

Good Luck
