Dimming from remotes

Hey all.  I have about 10 light sources hooked up to my cm15a.  Everything works fine with timers and macros and have no problem running any macros from the remotes but I can not ever use the dim up and down buttons on the remotes.  The instruction book for the slimfire remote clearly states to press and hold the arrow buttons to dim after pressing one of the number buttons on.  This does not happen.  I have also had no luck getting the dim functions to work in my theater from the palm remote.

The house code of the remote needs to be transceived.

Also, from what I experienced, the remote's house code needs to be the same as the light's house code for the dim / brighten to work.

I had thought the dim / brighten commands were generic (no address attached) and they worked with the last light to be addressed. I am probably misunderstanding how the dim / brighten protocol works, so hopefully one of the X10 signal protocol gurus will provide more information on exactly how it works.

Your understanding is the same as mine.  I expected that whatever last command was used on the remote the dim arrows would correspond to.  If this is not true then the system only works half way for me.  Although macros are great for Movie, Entertaining etc. modes it seems necessary for me in my theater to be able to adjust the three sets of lights from the remote

First make sure the House Code you are using is set to be tranceived in AHP. Tools; Hardware Configuration; Tranceived House Codes.
Can you turn the lights on and off with the remote and do you have the same address for the macro trigger as the actual Addresses of the modules in question?
Did a short test with the KR19A and a 1132CU Controller [a Smarthome unit] and when the button are pressed. Default with battery just installed. Button 1 sends an A1 AOn or A1 AOff. Then the dim sends an ADim and the bright sends an ABright signal. The last addressed module should respond to the bright or dim message if it is capable of doing this. If the modules ate Light Modules, new ones act different. Do they start rapidly or ramp up and down slowly?

The bright and dim commands include a housecode, so that must match.  You are correct in that they will control the last unit code (or set of unit codes) sent since the last function command.  For example:

     H4, H5, G6, H_Dim will dim only H4 and H5.

interestingly...

     H3, H_ON, H4, H_ON, H_Dim will only dim H4.

but...

   H3, H4, H_ON, H_Dim will dim both H3 & H4.

and...

    H3, H4, H_Dim will also dim both H3 & H4.

Thanks for clearing that up and for all the additional information Jeff.
