Perimeter Voice Alert
« on: January 17, 2007, 03:20:31 PM »

Does anyone know of a way that I can install a perimeter voice alert that will broadcast through a LOUD speaker and warn trespassers that they are about to enter a sensitive area?
We are located in an isolated area and therefore we would not be causing a disturbance to anyone other than the tresspasser.
I got the idea from some of the automotive alarms that have a proximity warning.
Thanks in advance.

Don't know what you want to use for sensors, but this is a great device for generating the audio.

amSeco Model VSD-208 Voice Siren Driver

Download / open the spec sheet (.pdf) on that page for detailed info.

It's what the company I work for uses commercially.  It has a built-in amplifier that is LOUD!  It plays a verbal warning, dogs barking, and siren sounds (user selectable, one or all in various combinations).  It requires an 8 ohm speaker and a 12 Volt power supply, oh and maybe a case mount it all in.

Good luck on the rest.

Bill,
I though that this would be the hard part and you have made it easier.
Would I be able to trigger it with motion sensors, laser or something along that line?
Can I record my own announcement on this unit?
Thanks again

For my perimeter alarm system I use the motion activated floodlights (PR511-HA). When motion is detected they activate up to four other X10 devices (device codes actually... it can be many more devices).

I turn on a camera, a light inside, and a remote chime (SC546A-HA). But it could also turn on (and then off at variable times) the sound system Bill linked (or any sound system).

That one can be triggered by any device that closes or opens a contact I.E. a motion detector's relay output, a door or window switch or X10's UM506 "Universal Module".

No, you can't record custom messages.

There is one manufactured by Visonic that allows you to record any sound (including voice) you want by use of it's built-in microphone, and like the amseco one has a built-in amplifier... Unfortunately, their web-site isn't responding at the moment, so I'll have to try to find a link later.

Additional 01/19/2007: The Visonic module is their SP-3 (the web site is still down though :( ).

Anyone thought of the VCR Commander. Make a cd with the audio you want it to say ie, "did you fall in the toilet". Then get a cheep REMOTE comtroled cd player program the play as record and stop as the stop. There you have it. Good LUCK.

Yes. I now do this for my home.

I am a BVC user, which means I use Bill's Voice Commander to control my X10 system via voice commands.

For the "outside voice warning" I use an X10 floodlight/motion detector, which turns on a camera and triggers recording. BVC "hears" this activity and issues the voice announcement (which also plays inside my home).

You can see and hear my setup in-action via (YouTube) video at my BVC Web Page.
