Start up contractor
« on: March 10, 2008, 12:14:26 PM »

I am just starting into this business and thought a little help might go a long way. I have been asked to furnish wireless motion detectors and alarms for a multi-unit condo building. I have been looking at using the ActiveEye MS16A wireless motion detectors coupled with the CM15A ActiveHome Pro software and computer interface box. I intend to use the Power Flash module to determine contact closure from another source and then integrate all of this through the logic of the CM15A box to activate a Universal module to close the contacts on an alarm. My question is that since I have never used this equipment, do any of you see any holes in this application? It needs to be trouble free and pretty bullet proof as some of these units are rented from time to time and I do not want to have false alarms or no alarms. How about any setups to periodically test the system by pushing a button or something like that. Any other advice will be appreciated, such as other modules or alternate ways to do this. I need to use the wireless approach due to the fact that the units are already finished.

Thanks in advance for any input

...do any of you see any holes in this application?...
Does the alarm system need to be able to work in the event of a power failure?

Steven-R, not necessarily but that is a consideration. Other than a battery pack or UPS how else would you reccommend?

Well I don't now how the alarm system that X10 sales works but X10 modules require a true sine wave that isn't common with most UPS systems. The modules tend to overheat and at best just not work. They get hot enough that I wouldn't want to speculate a worse case scenario. So I would not  recommend an X10 solution that revolves around AHP, the CM15A and any plug in modules if you require a system that would work during a power failure.
