I am trying to get my automation system back up and running after a year down... New HAI Omni board, New X10 interface but, phone cable is one I had laying around. Its a 4 conductor but could be confiqured wrong... Whats the lay out on the phone plugs and colors of wires.. If I am looking at the back of the jack where the pins are I see Black, Red, Green, Yellow on both...

My Interface will not blink when I send a comman to it and so far he only thing I can find info on is the jack layout...

   Thanks

Dan Lawrence

Standard phone cables have four conductors in them. The standard (Bell System) colors are red, green, yellow and black.  Red and green are used for the two sides of the talking path, yellow and black are used for electric power to dial lights, etc.   If you are not using the cables for telephone work, they are just four wires.

Second question: What interface for X10 are you using?  The CM11A uses a serial connection to the PC, the CM15A uses a USB cable.  I've never seen one that uses a phone cable.
I don't SELL this stuff... BUT I sure do ENJOY using it!!!

A few more specifics would help.  Like what model HAI Omni board and X10 interface?

It sounds like the cable you have should be straight through, but the correct cable (depending on the models above) may have to swap some lines.

In the real world, the only constant is change.

TonyGotaTruck,

If the module you are referring to is a PSC05, I believe that takes a cross over cable. Please provide more specific information.

The 4-conductor cable ordinarily used for connecting a telephone to a wall jack is a crossover cable.  The prongs on the RJ11 connectors are both on the same side of the flat cable.

It's possible the required cable for your system (about which I know nothing) is a straight-through cable, in which case you would crimp the RJ11 connectors such that the prongs are on opposite sides of the flat cable.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

I did that... Cut 1 connector off and crimped it back oppsite of the other , it didnt cut the light off on my interface so I thought it was going to work but, NOTHING... Cant beleive X10 or HAI doesnt have support to help with issues...

HAI sells a "2-way X10 interface kit" for the Omni LT.  Presumably this would include a PSC05.  I don't know if that's the problem, but your PSC04 is only a 1-way interface.

As Charles said. The PSC04 is a transmit only device and also uses a different connection scheme on the 4 pin RJ11 connector than the two way PSC05 or the X10 TW523.
If your interface is wired for the two way module. I doubt either a crossed or straight pinout cable will work.

Pin #1      PSC04  Zero Crossing detect           PSC05  Zero Crossing detect
Pin#2       PSC04  Zero Crossing Common        PSC05  Common
Pin#3       PSC04  X10 Common                     PSC05  X10 Output to OEM
Pin#4       PSC04  X10 Input from OEM           PSC05  X10 Input from OEM

Ya,ll are exactly right. Now I know... My problem is I have the psc04 and I should have the psc05 ... This has helped me greatly. I will order the right one and start over...

Thanks so much everyone who has posted to this thread...  and yes, The golf was great today... Played at Grand National in Opelika Al and have never played a pro course before now... Try it sometime...

Let us know how the PSC05 works for you.
