I have a Switchlinc X10 2384i dimmer wall switch, I need a 2382i slave companion unit for 3-way set up.  However, the 2382i slave unit is no longer in production. Does anyone know where I could still purchase the 2382i or if there are other slave units compatible with the 2384i Is the XPSS slave unit maybe compatible? I saw the XPSS and wondered because it has the green light and looks similiar to the 2384/2382 units and would blend in well with my other 2384/2382 units. Any input would be helpful.

I do not have any experience mixing the Switchlinc and X10 pro slave switches.  From an aesthetics view, the Switchlinc unit is a "true rocker" switch (two micro switches on the rocker) whereas the XPSS is a push-push switch (1 micro switch).  Note sure if that matters.

I did locate a thread that indicated that PCS brand slave switches might be compatible.  These switches are rather expensive, and in my opinion, not worth the risk.

If I remember correctly from your previous post, some of your switches were 2-way transmitter/receivers.  You could create a "virutal 3-way" circuit using the 2384 to control the load (wired as a single location switch) and a 2-way switch wired as a transmit only controller.

• 1st location (2384) wire as a single location switch directly controlling the load.
• 2nd location (transmitter/receiver) wire to hot/neutral only and cap the controlled output.
• Program both switches with the same X10 address.  Switch 1 will control the load directly.  Switch 2 (transmitter/receiver) will transmit an X10 on command in response to a paddle press and turn on Switch 1 through powerline communication.

Note: since this was a 3-way circuit, you may need to "re-task" some of the traveler wires to provide power and neutral at both switches. Remember to re-identify the wires with appropriate color electrical tape.

Thanks for the advice. I think I can make the work around you suggested work if I cannot locate a "for sure" compatible slave switch. If I use the main gang box, where power enters from breaker box as the actual control switch, I can then wire the secondary gang box as a transmitter switch only and join the traveler wires so that they just passthrough without any connection to the transmitter switch. In theory I believe this sounds like an option. Have you by chance seen any other wall switches that look similar to my Switchlinc rocker wall switches, they have a green LED light just above the rocker paddle? Thank you for the help!

I believe the PCS switches "look" like the Switchlinc (not inexpensive).

Short of that, the Leviton HCM06 series look similar but (depending on the model) have a single green lamp at the bottom of the switch.

Any suggestion for an inexpensive rocker style wall switch with scene capability? I have a few rooms I wish to create a scene in and really do not want to spend $60 on a Keypadlinc. Any suggestion?

Once you start getting into scenes the price tag increases exponentially.  The Leviton HCM06-1SW is scene capable, and you can sometimes find them in the $40 -$50 range.

Unfortunately, the Leviton scenes are incompatible with the Smarthome implementation.  I have a number of the HCM06 units but have not used the scene option (requires a controller to implement).

Thanks again for the input. I think I might just order a few more KeypadLincs. I saw them on eBay for $59.99 which is $10 less than on Smarthome.com and they give you so many options. Having 8 keys really empowers you to do a lot at every location.

I like the KeypadLincs as well.  It's nice to be able to control "whole house" functions from locations of your choosing. 

A couple of cautions -

• Some people have had problems getting warranty returns for units purchased from "resellers" (including Home Depot).  I really don't want to go into this anymore on this forum.  Visit Techmall.com for more info.
• Smarthome has recently come out with a new firmware model (V 1.5) that includes frosted pre-lettered buttons (not the clear buttons that you probably have).  The clear buttons can now be purchased separately (~$6).  The V1.5 firmware adds some new features and may correct some X10 issues with Allon/Alloff commands (the firmware rev was well received).  The button change has quite a number of people miffed.  20 years ago I would have been upset as well.  These days I just shrug, say a few inappropriate words, and get on with my life.

This is probably a serious breach of forum etiquette, but you should probably be spending your time at the Smarthome Forum.  You have a mixture of old (X10) and new (X10/Insteon) Smarthome units.  This forum can be invaluable in troubleshooting the X10 side of things and I have found its members to be both helpful and personable.  However, for up to date Insteon info, Techmall is the place to be.

Most users posting  about Smarthome products  here are looking for compatibility info! They should also post at the Smarthome forum for additional info
There are many users that use products from different manufactures  along with X10 devices!
This forum was intended for end users to help other users which Boiler you Are doing an excellent job! Many users (myself included) will not post to a thread they have no first hand experience with!
Besides a post like "I'm sorry I can't help you!" or "I don't need(want) that!" Isn't Helpful to anyone! Also the replying posters unhelpful count will most likely (and justifiably) go up very quickly!

Just to address the OP--I had the same problem of locating 2382W companion switches.  I bought one & two at a time on eBay, and now have the number I need (no more).  If you perform a search on eBay now, you'll see that there are at least two available.  Good luck!
