CM15a and DS10A
« on: January 04, 2006, 01:42:52 PM »

I am just getting into purchasing x10
components for my home.  I will be ordering
shortly.  However, I have one last question
I have not been able to answer from the
manuals.  I am looking at using the
ActiveHome Pro (CM15A).  This unit has
Wireless Capability.  I know the CM15a can
work with Sensors like the MS14A EagleEye
Motion Sensor.  However, do you know if the
ActiveHome Pro (CM15A) will comunicate with
X10 wireless security products.  An example
of this would be to use the wireless capable
ActiveHome Pro (CM15A) with the Wireless
Smart Door & Window Sensor DS10a.  Will
these items communicate?  I have received
conflicting advice.

Thanks,

Kyle

No they use a different subset of the X-10
command set

That means that i.e. a Door/window sensor
DS10A will not send any command that can be
recognized by the CM15A

unless I'm missing something here, they work just fine together.  When you register the DS10A with the ActiveHome software and the CM15a, it will indicate when the sensor has been triggerd.  You will more than likely have to do some sort of antenna mod though with the CM15a.  I get about 4 feet range without.  The antenna on the CM15a really sucks.

Kyle,

The CM15a can be purchased with different options. If you purchase it with the security option it will work with the Smart Door & Window Sensor DS10a. X10 runs sales that include the CM15A and all plugins at a reasonable price. ($49)

The range is poor as suggested by studmaster. You will most likely have to mod the CM15a or purchase other equipment to compensate for the range issue.

Note: At the time of kyle's post, the DS10A was not compatible with AHP and the CM15A. The OnAlert plug-in came to market later that year.
