Re-install Question
« on: October 12, 2008, 03:08:16 PM »

So I just re-installed my PC today with Windows XP (I'm not going near Vista thank you!). Anyway, I had the original AHP software installation file as well as the update file for 3.228. As you may all know, the setup files are very small because all the installation files are downloaded from the Internet when you double-click the setup file. You need an active internet connection to complete the setup in other words.

Since the setup is cumulative as we call it in the IT world, I figured there would be no point in installing the base install first. So I went straight for the update file and ran that. As suspected, the file seems to have downloaded and done a full install to 3.228 with just the "update file."

The interesting thing I noted was that no shortcuts were created in my Start Menu or on the Windows desktop. No problem, I just went to the program folder and made my own shortcuts. However, when I looked at the Program Files\ActiveHome folder, it seems that there are very few files (10 files, 8.80 MB) and this includes my .AHP file. Does that sound about right? I was trying to remember how many files were in there from the last time, but I couldn't. Everything seems to be working just fine with the software though.

Any comments?

Thanks,

If you did not back up your .AHX files that you created to separate media, you will have to built them from scratch.  Let that be a lesson.  ALWAYS back up the .ahx files you create in AHP.

AHP only creates 2 .ahx files on a fresh install, they are MyHome.ahx and Samples.ahx.  All other .ahx files in the ActiveHomePro folder are the ones you create.

To actually answer Outer Marker's question, I have 18 files in my Program Files/ActiveHome Pro folder:

  • ActiveHm.exe
  • ActiveHome Pro.chm
  • AHP.dll
  • ahp_config.xml
  • ahp_plugin.xml
  • ahp_smartmacros.chm
  • ant.dll
  • avx.dll
  • emailprp.xml
  • HOLIDAY.XML
  • ICities.xml
  • INSTALL.LOG
  • Macros.html
  • MyHome.ahx
  • Samples.ahx

Thanks guys!

I should have mentioned that I did backup my .ahx file, so I did have my home configuration available to me without having to go through it all again.

I should also mention that I don't have any of the smart macros or other plugins. Mine is just the plain base product. Everything seems to be in order. The files I have are:

ActiveHm.exe
ActiveHome Pro.chm
AHP.dll
ahp_config.xml
ahp_plugin.xml
ant.dll
avx.dll
MyHome.ahx
emailprp.xml
X10 (link to website)

I also don't use Holiday dates contained in the XML file, so I'm hoping things continue to work well.

I suppose if I wanted to be really obsessive I could just go back and install the base setup and then the update again. Then again, if it's not broken, why fix it?
