AHP macros rarely work
« on: October 27, 2008, 10:12:59 AM »

Its very frustrating, I have a very simple macro triggered by a sensor and it rarely works.  What is strange is when I activate the module directly thorough AHP it goes on and off perfectly but activating the macro does not turn on the same light through AHP.  Also, all the remote controls work with the light in question. HELP!

Ed,
Welcome to the forum.  Sorry you're experiencing some frustration.  We'll see what we can do to relieve that.

If you could give us some additional details it would be a help.
  • X10 Module Type (WS467 wall switch, LM465 Lamp module, etc
  • Macro example (trigger on a1, turn a3 on, etc)
  • Smart macros?
  • AHP version

If you are working with a dimmer that ramps the light level up slowly when activated (Soft Start), try re-identifying the module as a "LM14a 2-way lamp module".  We have a post on the subject here: Soft Start Dimmer Problems

You can also look at the activity monitor (F2) to see if your macro is actually activating and sending commands.

Past that, get back with us and we'll try to come up with suggestions,

here we go again.  >*<. x10 acts as though we are supposed to take our valuable time after purchasing a product and troubleshoot it for them. Oh well, I guess it is just one of those marginal programs that you throw in the trash after spending countless hours f*ing with it and put out the money for a real system, wired so there are none of these flukey problems.

I am able to run the macro manually and it works fine. Automatically ... well that depends on the time of day, which day it is and whatever bizarre occurance on the net that may be taking place. I have not expanded my system because I am unable to get any kind of reliability out of a single macro to turn on a camera and record still shots. And I am an electronics technician with twenty years experience.

I have better things to do than solve X10's problems. I actually got an email from someone wanting my ... well something file. After finally finding out they worked for X10, I sent them the file and they never responded with any feedback regarding it. TIGHTEN' UP X10! Money's gettin' short in America.

Hollyfox,
Some of us actually ENJOY "FIDDLING" with this stuff.  If you plan to throw anything away, please PM me and I'll pay to have your "trash" shipped to me.
I find that patience is a virtue.

X10 isn't plug-n-play. Maybe in a perfect world... all technology is plug-n-play. But in the here and now... X10 is a little bit of work... and a heck of a lot of fun.

I'm one who likes to troubleshoot but I also agree that we do alot of it here and don't see very many improvment in the stuff from x10.

Its not a plug and play technology like the say it is but its been around for years and years and it is as good as it gets for X10.  Maybe if you want to look into something else try smarthome.com and look at some other "plug and play stuff" but remember you'll pay more and still have to work with it.
