Hardware Configuration crash on start
« on: June 11, 2008, 11:11:17 PM »

Hi,
I am new to Active Home Pro. I have installed the software. However, when I try to get into hardware configuration, it's crashed right after the windows open. Any help? I am using the latest version of Active Home Pro

I am using Win XP PRO SP3 & CM15A

I had the same problem and was not able to resolve it on one computer.

However, I reinstalled all of the AHP applications on a 2nd computer that I have with WinXP Pro SP3, and the problem does not occur on that computer.

The first computer is one that I've been running for approx. 5 years, and the 2nd one is a new (< 3 months) system. I would suspect that there's some obscure system setting that needs to be changed or removed that would make it work on the old system, but I have no idea what that would be.

I hope that someone could point us to a solution that does not involve installation on a totally different computer or updating the OS....

Did you use Active Home/CM11A on the old (5 Year old) PC by any chance?

If you didn't uninstall it before installing AHP, there might be a software clash.  When I upgraded after upgrading the O/S from Win98 to WindowsXP SP2, I backed up the .X10 files from Active Home, uninstalled it, then installed AHP. Once installed, I imported all the .X10 files and AHP converted them, then I uploaded it to the CM15A, all my timers/macros worked perfectly.

Other then what I described, there's no good explanation of what happened.

Active Home Pro software ver 3.236 every time I try to click on hardware config the following message appears:

Active Home Professional has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I also had to make a manually short cut, AHP 3.236 does appear in the all program list or the add and remove programs list.

I did have the older version installed.  I used the unistall and then reinstalled the AHP 3.236. Still no joy.

You may need to do the reformat/reload, as their may be a O/S or other program clash.  I have 3.236 and no problems whatsoever.

Dan,

Thank You for your reply.  I think I know what happened.  I could not open the AHP zip file so I just used the down load to install. The down load does not install the program correctly without the zip file.  I had x-10 resend the zip file for AHP.  I opened this one and reloaded with the new file everything works.  I then used link to down load smart macros.  I had also tried the link under the FAQ's it does not appear to contain the correct zip file if any at all.

Zip file?   The only way to upgrade to 3.236 is to download the executable (found here) and install it. The zip file is what you get when you first purchase AHP/CM15A.

Dan,

That's the one.  I had to reinstall the x-10 software on a new computer because I lost the my hard drive during the NH Ice Storm.  I could not find my order # so I had x-10 send me a new link to my software. I could not get the zip to open.  So I now had my registration code and down loaded from the FAQ's page. If you do not have that zip file the down load happly acts like it works but it is not installed correctly(IE installs Active Home Pro).  Try it.  Very simple problem but look at the number of posts.  I think the FAQ needs to provide the zip file as well.
