Hello,

I've been asked to program a number of modules for lights in a group home.

Can I program them here at work, and then carry them to the group home?

Or do they lose their settings when they are removed from the AC outlets?

I guess I'm asking if there are modules that have some sort of battery backup, right?

THANKS!!!

Are you talking about the AHP CM15A computer interface or the CP250 [Are you sure it is not a CP290?] computer interface; you mentioned in another thread?

The CM15A has batteries for backup and if the programs are stored in the interface are remembered.

From an old manual. The CP290 also looks like it can have a 9 volt battery for backup.

Modules have dials to set them and don't get programmed. Socket Rockets that do get set by power line commands. Remember their address when powered back up.

I had to buy a CM15A to do the job.

The Activehome Pro kit I got came with one Socket Rocket, which will remember its settings, once it is removed, as long as the CM15A is plugged in, right?

How about a module for a lamp that plugs into an AC outlet? Obviously I need to order some. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

The Socket Rocket will remember its address after being moved. The only thing is for the first 30 seconds after you power it up. It is in the programming mode again. If no new X10 signals are on the power line it will stay on the settings it remembered. I believe it programs with three addresses in a row for the 30 seconds. So it is doubtful it can be unintentionally be reset. The CM15A being connected has no bearing on the LM15A Socket Rocket remembering the address.

Programs stored in the CM15A interface and not run from the computer directly should also stay intact. Many here program theirs and then move them or turn off the computer.

Check out Automated Outlet http://www.automatedoutlet.com/   The carry X10 items at lower cost than X10USA and shipping is very reasonable regardless of how many items you purchase.   As to Socket Rockets, once they are programmed, they can be moved anywhere.

The LM465 plug-in lamp modules manufactured by X10 have code wheel switches for setting the Housecode/Unit address and aren't electrically programmed.  Modules manufactured by Smarthome and probably most other manufacturers are electrically programmed similar to the LM15A "Socket Rocket" and do maintain their programming when disconnected from AC.  So you should be safe whichever way you go.

The LM465 will generally be the least expensive of any manufacturer.   Especially if purchased from authorized X10 resellers on eBay, particularly if you buy a bulk pack of three modules.  Avoid buying used X10 stuff on eBay or buying from liquidators.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.
