    Been doing some research on proposals for the new smartgrid.  Seems that one of the proposals out there is the ability to adjust home owner's thermostats based on demand.  I'm wondering how this will be achieved and if the technology will affect my x10 signal propagation.
I'm guessing that the PLC technology will be friendly to x10 based on the fact that the smartgrid signal will have to get over local transformers without the additional cost of adding individual couplers at every instance, but who knows?

   I consider my house to be pretty smart using x10 (x10 was the most economical solution for me), but would hate to have an investment spanning almost 21 years go down the tubes in the name of progress.

  Any thoughts or information on this?

  While we're at it, please chime in with technologies that transmit data over the powerlines.  I'd like to know.

  I know there is high speed internet over the powerlines,  my meter sends its readings in to the central office over the lines,  I think musak is delivered via the lines.  Any others?

Don't get me started about the "smart grid". I think it includes plans for the current administration to repeal Ohms Law. Therefore allowing significant saving by lowering Resistance.

The Great and Honorable President Barack Obama has asked the United States Congress "to act without delay" to pass legislation that includes doubling alternative energy production in the next three years and building a new electricity "smart grid".

How could any American be against any such plan... whatever that plan is... as it is sure to save money AND the planet. NEVER MIND that electric generation in America has always been done by greedy corporate businesses. Sure those capitalistic bast***s may have built a collective system of generation and distribution that is the envy of the world. But they did it out of GREED not love of the planet. Those power company's need to be nationalized. Taking over the powerlines they share... looks... less threatening... and a darn good place to start.

Thank God... we have already crushed those greedy bankers by buying controlling interests in the American major banks. Never mind... those bank stocks that was once a mainstay of a retirement portfolio are now worthless. The Government has already acted quickly to reduce the executive incomes. Nationalization is certainly grand. And even the naysayers admit that banks may once again be making loans by mid summer... if not this year.. next year.

After we've increased regulation on domestic auto manufactures (to shut them down).. and started the process to make our powerlines digital... the Government can turn an eye to those greedy oil companies! What a great and wonderful time to be a proud socialist American. Having FREE health care and affordable drugs and medications will be like paradise. Certainly we will all be able to proudly tell our grandchildren... we saw it happen. We watched from our easychairs as American capitalism was crushed... and we BOLDLY did nothing.

I am sure your home power lines will remain X10 friendly (on the days your allotted your share of power) As you know...the bulk of my working career was as a civil servant... as we used to say: "You can trust me... I work for your Government".

I knew a guy that lived in Cincinnati, Ohio and had the "broadband over powerlines". He said it was DSL speed.
