CK11A and windows XP
« on: March 02, 2009, 10:04:22 PM »

Hi,

I have an old version of Active Home and am trying to get it to run on windows xp without a serial port.  I've connected the serial port through to a usb port with an adapter, but I can't seem to get it to work.  I've run the communications test on all of the comm ports, but they all fail.

Do I need new software?  Is it even possible to get this configuration to work?

Thanks!  Taiya

In Device Manager. Do you know what Com Port the USB adapter was given?
XP and Active Home can be a problem. Some installs worked other didn't
Many times it was the motherboards comm chip interface.

There is no other X10 software for the CM11A. Can't say about third party ones.

Thanks for your response!

The usb port was given com3, I checked in the device manager.  And I'm running XP on an older dell inspiron.   I guess if there is no other software there isn't much I can do other than try a different computer?

I couldn't get the CM11A to connect to either of my XP computers, but it does still work fine with an old W98 laptop.

One thing to try.
Click on the Active Home Shortcut.
Properties
Compatibility
Run as 98/ME
Disable Visual Themes
Turn off Advanced Text Services.
Sometime this helps other times no go.

Yes!  Works!!

Thank you!!!  Brian!  I spoke with "Vanessa" late last night @ 1-8000 #.  She sounded stoned or something, I wish she told me about this.
