TM751 will not send on/off for unit 1 and 5
« on: February 26, 2009, 09:58:30 PM »

I found out early on that TM751's built in appliance module responds to unit code 1 from the remote HR12A and is not settable.  Since I also have a mini timer I figure I would put it in in place of my current unit one but found out that it will not turn on or off when commanded to by the mini timer--only the remote.  I also found out TM751 will not pass unit code 1 on to other devices.  Now I find out it also doesn't pass on unit code 5!  what's up with this?

Everything you observed, except the Unit Code 5, is the way the TM751 works.

I suspect whatever you have set to Unit Code 5 is experiencing a signal integrity issue between where the TM751 is plugged in and where that module is plugged in.

The TM751 has no power line receive in it. So the mini timer will not turn its unit 1 output on and off. As you have found.
It should pass all 16 unit codes for the House Code it is set to from a remote back to the power line.
Have you tried moving the unit 5 module and the TM751 next to each other and seeing if it then controls it. If it does than I also think you have power line noise or signal suckers in the home. If it still does not pass units 1 and 5; it maybe defective. Also if you have more than one remote try more than one. The remote could also be the problem.

Yup your right.  Mini timer can see #5, Mini timer can see #3, TM751 can see #3, but TM751 can not see #5.

it's always something.  I really wish it would pass on the code 1 and/or accept the on/off from the timer.  Even better is along with the above the TM751 had a setting for unit code it will respond to.

X10 is not exactly plug and play, there are a lot of household electrical items that can degrade the X10 power line signals; PCs are notorious. It helps to map out your electrical circuits for each breaker to see what is plugged into the same path as an X10 module, as well as see what phase the modules and controllers are on; most likely you will need a phase coupler.

Since the TM751 only responds to an RF unit 1 signal, you can add a 2nd Unit 1 module (on the same house code) to use with what you want to control with the mini-timer.

My 2 cents worth.

I am assuming you meant to say Mini timer can't see #5 Mini timer can see #3, TM751 can see #3, but TM751 can not see #5.

Well the mini timer probably can't see #5 because you have the slide switch set to 1-4. Set the slide switch to the 5-8 position and see what happens. While the timer can control 8 units, it can only do 4 at a time. This may be the same reason the TM751 can't see #5 either. Move the slide switch to the 5-8 position and see what happens.

The TM751 is as stated above a receive only module so if you would like to have some selectivity as to putting the unit on a different unit code you should look at the RR501 which is a two way module and it's house code can be 1 or 9 slide switch selectable. Do a search on you favorite search engine for Differences between TM751 and RR501. The site I was on had a table listing the differences.

Well now that I have typed a dimes worth, I will say hope this helps you resolve your problems.

Good Luck,
Bob

no I meant: Mini timer can see #5, Mini timer can see #3, TM751 can see #3, but TM751 can not see #5.

anyway, Puck is right, this ain't plug and play.  If it was it sure would be better but we have to live with what we get.
