Programing the IconRemote for Onkyo Receiver
« on: May 08, 2009, 10:51:24 PM »

I have a TX-SR674 Onkyo receiver that is controlled by a RC-651M remote. The following advice might work for other Onkyo remotes. For this receiver, at least one code in the Wizard setup routine for the IconRemote ("IR") works to Power On and control the volume and mute operations. But none of the codes turn the receiver off. Next step was to use the IR 'Learn' feature but I still couldn't get it to Power Off. Tried again and again with same result. It would turn On but not Off. Onkyo customer service was no help. Their tech was either willfully blind to my questions or worse. An email to IconRemote was never answered. So I was on my own, which is where I should have started. On my own I finally figured it out. When I used the Onkyo remote to turn the receiver on and off I only had one button press - the Power button. I had forgotten about the Mode buttons. Since the Mode was always set to Receiver, the Power button defaulted to the Receiver. That little detail had escaped me. So to Learn the Power On/Off code to the IR, first press the Receiver button and then the Power button. Good luck.
