Ghost Modules - Appliance Module works where Lamp Module Won't - Why?

Re-posted here in Troubleshooting:

My ghost modules weren't triggering the Macro Off.  I did a search in the Troubleshooting section and found this http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=16343.0.  I changed my ghost modules from Lamp Modules to Appliance Modules and everything is functional.  I ran 6 series of tests on a variety of modules (setting all of the ghosts from Appliance Modules) and all is well.

Why do the Appliance Modules function as ghosts but the Lamp Modules wouldn't?

Please excuse the double post.  I was actually moving the conversation over here as I felt it was more appropriate to this forum.
