  Might I suggest a class 1 bluetooth microphone & receiver. One that you can wear or clip to your clothing or chair.
Paired with one of your computers it would give you the ability to communicate with the computer from anywhere in and around your home.
You will be able to be as close or as far away as you wish when you activate something,
Plantronics is one of the companies that I know of that has these.
