LM465 won't come up to full brightness ...
« on: January 14, 2010, 06:08:09 AM »

Just received 4 LM465's. Two of the four are still dimmed when turned on to 100% brightness. I know about the "soft start" feature and the fact the module will remember the last brightness setting, but this is occurring when they are getting an "on" command or holding the "bright" button down from simple maxi controllers. I measured the voltage when they are supposedly full on and get about 97 volts on a true rms volt meter. The other two work normally.... also tried several different controllers with the same result.... I would guess they are just defective....

Two other users have reported similar findings. Goes to maybe 75% to 80% of full On. Both have had Customer Service issue a replacement order. We have not seen messages about the replacements full On Level yet.

Sounds like your batch was mixed. One user had the whole 8 for $49.99 Mega Pack Deal do the same thing. No 100% brightness.

I just bought 2 LM465's from Big John on ebay:
http://feedback.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=bigjohn9944&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true
and have the exact same problem.

At 100% the lights are at ~40% (very, very dim).  I tried switching in a 150W bulb but that got me to about 60W brightness.

This totally sucks!  Is there any kind of fix?

MC. We have seen no fixes reported here.

I know at least one users was issued an RMA from X10 to return them for exchange. Have not see a report of how the replacements where working yet.

Has to be a production run of them since cs491 has two that go to 100% and two that don't.

I believe independent X10 dealers are required to handle their sales directly. So contact the vendor and see what can be done.

When I said I received four LM465's, actually I had placed two orders. One from X-10 direct and the other from Big John on ebay. The order from X-10 was actually for a CM15A, and of course they threw in other stuff in the package. One bad LM465 came from that order (also a socket rocket that was DOA). I had ordered a LM465 three pack and other stuff from Big John on ebay. That order contained 2 good LM465's and one bad one. Since they are so cheap, it really costs more in time and effort to return them and get them replaced. Everything else in the order from Big John on ebay was fine, so I am not going to bother him with the problem...

That sounds about right on the cost to return.
I see one of the deals today is buy a Socket Rocket and get one free. Then through in three LM465s for good measure. $19.99. If I got one bad part in that order. Trash can time or maybe in my case. Take apart and see whats up.  :'

One thing did catch my eye. In the buy a Socket Rocket package above. The photo of the LM465 says new softstart module with AGC. :' I don't remember seeing AGC before.

I received an email from Big John's Place on EBay. John happened to read my post on this forum and tracked me down. As I said earlier, I wasn't going to bother him with the problem since everything else in the order was fine. In his email, he said "A known defect was discovered in two different batches being shipped by the X10 warehouse." He also said that he was going to have a replacement shipped to me directly from X10. Since I didn't even contact him directly, it's nice to know that there are merchants that would bother to go through all this effort.

Thanks for the update.
I got one out of three LM465s in my last deal along with one out of two defective Socket Rockets.
Sounds like a good vendor to deal with.
