AHP, camera not getting a picture
« on: March 21, 2010, 04:45:11 PM »

I am using AHP, got the CM15A hooked up and loaded, got the CM19A hooked up and loaded. Using XP SP3 (mostly clean install, just using this computer for X-10). AHP loads now without errors on CM19A and CM15A after updating to the 328 software update.  Set up a XC19A camera, VR30A receiver (also tried the VR36A receiver).  I am getting a excellent picture on the TV, but I am getting nothing but static on the PC.

I looked for other user issues on this and only found real old ones.  This search corrected the CM15A and CM19A issues by uploading the newer version of AHP.

Has anyone got any advice on what is happening here?  The computer is a Dell with plenty of RAM, nothing else loaded.  B:(

Thanks in advance

You can see if it is a vr36a receiver or a va12a USB-video adapter issue by supplying video from another (known) source into the va12a.  A VCR is good, even if it's just the blue screen.  I have had issues receiving video with the vr36a receiver too close to the computer monitor or TV...

No experience with AHP-specific troubleshooting...   ???

You don't need both a CM15A and CM19A they are both x10 PC interfaces neither will get you a video picture on your PC without a video capture device like a VA11A or VA12A.
If you indeed have a capture device hooked up along with the CM15A and CM19A then it most likely is a conflict between the CM15 and CM19, remove the CM19 from your setup. Leaving the CM19A connected will only cause issues!

I have a CM15A and a VA12A hooked up, not a CM19A (camera is a xc19a), sorry all these different devices....too many letters numbers ;D
I will try the VCR feed into the VA12A and see if that works.  (I do have the CM19A but I did not hook it up since it did not state it was involved with what I needed.) I had been receiving errors on both the CM15A and the VA12A before I loaded the newer version of AHP.

I will also try running the receiver off from the computer and monitor.

Thanks for the responses.

I guess what I was trying to say is:

To troubleshoot an X10 problem, you need to reduce the variables.
Your camera works, and your receiver works, because you can see the video on your TV.

The only other variables are the AHP plugin that displays video and the VA12A. (hardware, driver, etc.)
By supplying a solid video source, like a VCR, you can troubleshoot the VA12A and AHP plugin and remove the camera/receiver as a source of your problem.
The only other thing I can think of, is maybe the AHP shut off the camera, which the known video source removes as a variable.

There - Clear as mud  ;D

OK I switched the camera I had in my study with the one I knew worked and now I get a picture but the receiver almost has to be with a few feet of the camera and also the refresh on the screen might be off, it cycles about every second and it does not show a good clear picture.  At least I am getting a picture.  Any way to clear up the picture?  Hope I am describing it correctly.

I am playing with the video settings but I might not have enough ram on the system to do the job, might try changing out the video card with one that has more ram also.

Picture is there now, but even with a different video card and putting a higher refresh rate, still the picture is unacceptable.   B:(

Any ideas here?

Topmmc,

Something that hasn't been covered as far as I have seen is a possible conflict with other wireless devices.

Wireless phones, or wireless LAN's frequently use the same frequencies as X10 video.

You may need to change the camera and receiver A/B/C/D video channel, or set your wireless router or phone to another channel.

In the real world, the only constant is change.

Is the picture crystal clear with a non-wireless video device, such as the VCR?   ???

If so, then it's wireless interference.
If the VCR is still not clear, then it's VA12A or software.

I hooked the VA12A to the VCR, the picture is good but it still does a good picture to bright refresh about every few seconds.  Put the usb hookup on an extension to pull the VA12A away from any of the computer or monitor interference but it did not make any difference.

When hooked to the VCR, it looks like everything is in very slow motion, showing  a clip then skipping some then showing another one....

OK -

I never used the VA12A and AHP video plugin, so I will be of little help here.

I think we can agree that the problem exists within those 2 things, though.   ;)

On other, 3rd parts software, there are video settings such as frames per second and PAL/NTSC.
You want 30 frames per second and NTSC for the USA.  I don't know if this is relevant, but just trying to help.

Some Active Home IWatchout user will have to jump in now!  ;D

Thanks, I will check this out also.  I do use a wireless phone and wireless LAN.
