OK who remembers the name of the chimp Dave Garroway would hold on the OLD Today show? No fair googling, and no I really can't remember but think it was "MR"  something or other.   ;D
Well it turns out it wasn't "Mr" anything. I finally broke down and googled. The chimp was " J. Fred Muggs". Definitely and "old geezer" question.

I guess the "Million Dollar Heist" train is way off track, so to get it back on...I did order the 3 decorator wall switch deal for $20 which is still pretty good pricing.

For those who are using these WS12As (and even the WS14As) do you feel that they are a quality product?  I learned fast that the socket rockets aren't durable when a bulb dies.  I hope this is a long lasting solution to controling lights without being forced to use a remote like you would with the SRs.

Under the right conditions just about any dimmer switch (non X10 also) can short when the bulb blows. I have had the manual  "Push -On, Push-Off" knob style dimmers short on a bulb burn out. The Socket Rockets are more suseptable to bulb burn out because X10 uses a smaller, lower current triac. However the good news is any X10 dimmer with the "Soft Start" feature should be more robust against burn out.

Does the WS12A have the Soft Start?  Searching on the forums came up with only your post ;)

Good question. The re-designed WS467 does. Whether the WS12A has the new controller chip I'm not sure. One of the new features from the new chip, besides Soft Start is Local Dim (dimming at the switch). The WS12A web page does not list this as a feature, so if no other forum members know, then you may want to call X10 and hope you talk to a rep that knows.

http://software.x10.com/pub/manuals/ws12a-14a-is.pdf <-- user guide

"Press the paddle quickly to turn the module on and off. Press and hold to dim or brighten. Note: if you press the paddle and nothing happens, you might have pressed it for too long and started to dim the light and not noticed that it dimmed."

Looks like local dimming works on this.

You remember that... or just hearing about it?

Both...I bought a DVD release of Jack Paar's tv shows  ;D  . He was *very* good, and Judy Garland was hilarious! Apparently the two of them were good friends.

BTW does this forum have email notification?

The creator of the Tonight Show, was Steve Allen. The story he told was: He would have friends over to the house... and they would talk and laugh and share storys and sing songs. He thought a show... with his same "industry" friends would be a good show. So the tonight show was born. Then there was Jack, then Jonny, and Jay.

I've seen all the hosts. All have been wonderful. But I think the earlier.. less polished shows.. had a special quality.

I agree. More intelligent, witty, and....remembering Judy Garland's impersonation of Marlene Dietrich...totally hilarious!

I turned it on one time accidentally on an active topic, and it got pretty annoying!  B:(

You go into the topic you want the email on, and click the "NOTIFY" on the top right bar of the page...  "REPLY  NOTIFY  MARK UNREAD  PRINT" etc...
