New User Question
« on: March 19, 2010, 03:37:15 PM »

I  have 4 appliance modules and three wall switches controlled by a CM15A module.  All appliance modules functioned as programmed  by Active Home Software both on and off.  The light switches will turn off as programmed but won't turn on as programmed.  If I use a remote control with the CM15A and manually turn them on they work fine.  I have also built macros in AH software for the wall switches that send RF commands to an adjacent transceiver (10 feet from the module) with 5 "On" commands each separated by a two second delay.  That won't work either.  Any ideas how to get the X-10 wall switches to turn on as programmed??

Thanks Knightrider for pointing me in the right direction.  Following the recommendations in this post, I first tried:

"Under the Tools tab,

Click on "Preferences" >> "Macro Options"

Check the little box that says "Issue 'On' in place of bright 100%"

This will do the trick most of the time and will stop the dissemination of bad information at the forum."

That had no affect for me.  Next I tried:

"The "issue 'on' in place of '100% bright'" setting only affects macros. It doesn't affect timers.

It makes perfect sense that your wall switches aren't turning on. Mine don't either when sent a "100% Bright".

The workaround I use is to put my commands (typically an "on" followed by delay and a "dim") inside a macro and have a timer call the macro."

Perhaps I didn't set up the macros properly (I think I did), but that didn't work either.  What finally worked was:

"Instead of a macro, you should be able to do the same thing with a "dummy" appliance module in AHP, with the same HouseCoude/UnitCode as the wall switch. Set the timers on the dummy module (for on/off), and that should work."

Bottom Line: Set the light modules as appliance modules in AHP and all works well.  I can't dim them  from AHP software but I can dim from the switch it self.  Once the dimness level is established manually at the switch, it stays at that level every time which is what I want.  Thanks again.

Did you redefine the soft start wall switches as an LM14A?

No, didn't try that  -- but since I have everything working as I wanted -- I'm afraid to jack around anymore.  I'll keep this on file though.  Thanks for the input.

Yes I have found out the hard way. If it is working OK don't try and fix it better. ;D
