'Accidental' Errors?
« on: March 21, 2010, 07:45:41 PM »

Has anyone else noticed the 'Accidental' errors in the Deals?

For example...
"4 cameras for $99.99" turns into 3 for $99.99...  http://www.x10.com/promotions/xx20a_ed_1cam_1m_promo.html
or
"Flip between both cameras with the click of the Keychain Remote" & "BONUS FEATURE: Remotely control lights/appliances" - But there is no remote included...
or
the "4 Pack of Decorator Switches - Only $20.99" only to be led to a page where there are 3 switches for $19.99 and 4 for $24.99
http://www.x10.com/promotions/ws12a_ed_pk_1m_promo.html

I'd check and double-check your orders, as they are not what they appear.   :-\
Some deals appear GREAT, only to be good when you look at the 'What's Included'.   :-[
Buyer Beware :o

This has been going on for years.  If contemplating any "N for 1" purchase, it always pays to carefully check the entire ad page for a better deal.  I recall seeing ad pages which included "3 for 1", "4 for 1", and "5 for 1" deals for the same item.

I suppose there could always be a screwup, but the SKU numbers for the various deals are different.  And yes, it always pays to check the "what's included" before ordering.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

It would be OK if it was two different deals, but the better prices don't seem to exist!   B:(

In the same deal, they refer to 4 for 1.  Then the "what's included" says 3!
In the description, they refer to keychain remotes, and the "what's included" doesn't include any!

That's just a blatant misstatement!   :-\

I dunno, I think that gives them too much credit. It presumes X10 knows what they were doing. I don't think that is true anymore.

Oh come on guys. I bet if you called X10 about the errors... they would give the price of the best deal posted. They just completed a massive revamp of their Web Site. That's a major deal for business that doesn't have a real store. I am sure there will be a few errors.

Dave -
I am not as confident as you [he says in his most politically correct fashion].  :-\

I would agree that there would be errors when the site was revamped, but the daily deal newsletters have been daily since the beginning of Home Automation.  I would think that a deal that started Friday, and it's now Monday should be correct.  I also sent them an email telling them of the errors.

Besides, in the past, when there was an error in my favor, they would simply tell me that item was 'not available'.  It was VERY questionable to me about a month ago, how a CM19A was no longer available.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I believe someone proposed a 4 for 1 deal.  They created the sales page.  Some supervisor then disagreed, saying they had to show a profit this month, and changed Most of the ad.....

I agree, but regardless, I perceive X10, in manufacturing, engineering, and management as a company in chaos.

I agree.

I think they are doing their best with what they have, though.  Their products are pretty good, but haven't improved much in at least a decade.  They have sales staff that probably has no incentive to go that extra mile (like most people these days - doing their shift then go home)

The fact that they are still in business is a testament to their hard work - although far from perfect.   #:)

Update:  They corrected this one!  They read part of my email!   :o

No,  I don't think that. X10 is a "survivor" company.

More like their resources are stretched to the limits, hence details are getting missed. Perhaps "chaos" was not a good choice of words.

I'd say Chaos is a pretty accurate description.....

Just added:
A $12.99 Wireless Doorbell Kit, yours for only $14.99!   rofl

Even funnier -
I just read a review for the Icon Remote, and people were replying (back in 2007 or so) things like:

That company is still in business?  I had thought they had gone under.
Aren't they the king of popups and annoying spam ads?

And my personal favorite:
They have evolved very little.  They had a module for the Vic-20.

 rofl
