LW12 and AW12 strange behaviour
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:15:45 PM »

Hi guys

Can you help me with some problems I'm experiencing with an AW12 and an LW12.

1) Installed a new AW12 (well the electrician did) and it works OK with the momentary switch - turns on and off.  It responds to X10 commands to turn it on, but not to turn it off.  Any ideas?

2) Existing LW12 in front bedroom.  Permanently stuck on.  It was working fine until my sister and brother-in-law came to stay and they couldn't turn it off.  I reset the breaker in the garage and even disconnected the switch live from the momentary switch but still permanently on.  In the end I had to resort to unscrewing all 6 bulbs.  That was 2 weeks ago and every couple of days I try again, but it won't turn off with either the momentary switch or X10 commands from PC or remote switches.  Again, any ideas please?

Thanks, Paul

1) What kind of lights is the AW12 controlling? If they are low voltage; CFL or a few other types. They could be making noise when On and the X10 signal is not strong enough to turn it off.

2) Sounds like the LW12 module is damaged and can no longer controlled. By chance does it have a pilot light that indicate if it is on or off? If so does the pilot light go on and off?

I have exactly the same behaviour (x10 on works always, x10 off sometimes, wall switch works always). What I found out is that Brian is probably right but with a small modification in my case: my load is probably to big for the LW12:

if I start the lights only with a low dim level (used the wall switch to set them to a low level) I can use X10 to turn the lights off. All lights work also. If I turn them a little bit brighter X10 Light Off works every second or third time. If at full brightness the X10 command never works.

Maybe you have the same problem?

First, let me start by saying I am in the USA, and do not have either module.  I looked at the manual and offer these suggestions:

Is it possible the reason why the LW12 does not respond is that the code got changed or lost?  Because it can be set with sending it X10 codes in rapid succession, maybe when you were trying to get the AW12 to work, you sent a lot of codes and changed the LW12.  If so, try resetting the code, according to the manual here:  http://www.marmitek.com/en/manual/9611.pdf

Another possibility is a power "event" that zapped both units, if it happened at the same time.

I hope this helps!  ;D
